Case Studies
The following are a few projects I was privileged to work on together with staff and volunteers.
Solution: I was brought on a team of consultants to write the scripts for a series of webinars (all except Set Up Your Content Strategy). I co-presented “Introduction to Community Building.” For the full Facebook/Meta Social Impact Webinar project may be found here.
Solution: Through intensive capital campaign coaching, the Human Services organization met its goal to fully fund the $3.1 million capital expansion and renovation. The Board, CEO, and campaign committee stated that they felt completely supported to be successful.
Solution: After a facilitated analysis, this Human Services organization changed the event to focus on raising funds, having fun, engaging in the mission and using volunteers. As a result, the event revenue increased by 21% the first year and a yearly attendee and long-time supporter stated that they finally understood what the nonprofit did.
Solution: Through an informed fund development planning process, the Arts and Culture Board conquered their fear of fundraising through customized training and, during the fund development planning retreat, each Board member committed to overseeing and implementing the fund development plan we co-created.
Solution: In the fall prior to the event, I developed and coordinated a peer-to-peer awareness building campaign for these Human Services organizations. The goal was to host 20 pre-event groups. I engaged, trained and coordinated 31 pre-event groups; the pre-event groups went viral. The fundraising event sold out. In addition, 40% of the attendees were new to the organizations, giving them new donor prospects.
Solution: I developed a comprehensive 8-week campaign plan with daily tasks, communication themes, and weekly coaching meetings with the Executive Director of this Youth Serving organization. As a result, the organization increased their revenue through this annual campaign by 94%.
Solution: After receiving the fundraising and revenue dependencies analysis, the Board felt comfortable to move forward with their strategic planning and the direction for the Human Services organization.
Solution: As a result of a 6-month campaign readiness training, planning and coaching project, the Executive Directors of this Leadership Development organization felt prepared to work with a major donor consultant and campaign. In addition, my cultivation and campaign readiness meetings with a donor resulted in a $500,000 donation.
Solution: Through coaching, the Executive Director of this Human Services organization followed the plan I established. This Executive Director is now excited about cultivating major donors; making it a daily priority. Within a year, she succeeded in cultivating her portfolio of 20 donors and received 12 major donations.
Solution: In order to allow this Conservation nonprofit to find the right candidate, I provided interim fund development services to process donations; make recommendations, which were implemented, to strengthen their current fund development strategies; continue the planning for upcoming fundraising projects; and maintain their social media presence during the transition.
Solution: Through a facilitated discussion of donor motivations and the right fundraising vehicles, the Professional Training Institute nonprofit identified the key target audience and a strategy to reach that audience. As a result of a small group, intensive gathering, new firms in the field began employing trainees. In addition, 2 of those CEOs became first-time donors and whose second gifts totaled $35,000 within a year of implementation.
Solution: I conducted a confidential capital campaign feasibility and donor engagement study that uncovered donor misconceptions about the organization, giving the Board and leadership of this Human Services nonprofit more effective messaging and areas to strengthen in their fund development program before embarking on a future capital campaign.
Solution: Through a Fund Development Communications Assessment for this Conservation nonprofit, I reviewed the fundraising messages and methods and made recommendations for consistent messages and effective fund development strategies for now and in the future.

I am as an amateur fundraiser and break down information in easily digested pieces.
She listens carefully and breaks things down and is super willing to brainstorm with you.
several tough situations. She’s the best.
for this at least every other year. Definitely a value-add.
way with words. She also helps me think about our goals and organization in new ways. Love her!
She is prepared with a plan but always gives space to ensure what is happening in our agency is priority. She really knows her stuff- I could ask her a question and she ALWAYS knows, not only the answer, but the WHY behind the answer and is able to cite research supporting it. I always leave feeling like I am getting the best guidance.
Not only does she understand Non-Profit visions and missions, board dynamics, the role of Non-Profits in our culture, the nature of most of their operational struggles, and especially the many nuances of fundraising, but – in addition to all that knowledge – Chany is very pleasant to work with. She makes positive suggestions and willingly initiates programs that produce fruit.

with pragmatic steps, goals & guidelines. She understands our unique “small but mighty” non-profit and did all her research to provide the best outcomes. Every suggestion she made was “spot on” and our Board of Directors was so impressed with her depth of knowledge. … Gave us the confidence to skills to take our development to a whole new level!
Her understanding of strategic fund development, moves management, and special events make her a balanced fundraising consultant. Chany was especially helpful to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flathead County as we transitioned to a new donor database.
~ Jesse Mahugh
She will draw upon her wealth of experience – in all facets of friend and fundraising – to identify your unique opportunities and the sequential steps you need to take to realize your fundraising potential.
~ Terry Chaney
In planning out the steps of a project, she is conscientious and thorough in the way she thinks about the tasks, timelines and people involved. She is always willing to raise ethical questions when necessary, and helps clients stay focused on desired outcomes while helping protect and build their reputations and relationships. Her attention to detail is balanced with a grasp of the “big picture” of the organization’s mission and connection to their community. And, she always thinks of at least one thing I missed!
~ Ned Cooney
I’ve been consistently impressed with the wealth of Chany’s knowledge regarding best practices for non-profit effectiveness. She has an abiding commitment to non-profits and their misison success and brings information of real value to any project.
~Susie Burch
Chany’s experience with best practices and fund-raising can save time, energy, and money for board and staff members. She’s a great listener and has a wealth of information for assisting nonprofits.
~ M. Davis, Flathead County
She gives excellent information with ways to implement it now. Her handouts are great. I will continue to attend anything when she is doing the presentation. I found Chany to be very organized and well prepared and so helpful when she was with the Flathead Nonprofit Development Partnership. Chany is a very qualified resource in many areas especially anything to do with nonprofits.
~ KL Walker
Her knowledge is expansive and her delivery is dependable. Chany is organized, reliable, and thorough. We worked with Chany on an outreach project that we needed help developing and getting off the ground. Not only did Chany facilitate a seamless event, but she also left us with a detailed manual on how to continue the event independently without her in the future. What a gift! She also took the time to learn about our mission and the people we serve, in order to provide the most relevant support possible. We love working with Chany and would recommend her to any organization that needs help “tightening things up” and increasing their organization’s capacity.

All those hours of work last fall have paid off. This will make such a huge difference to us programmatically and in terms of our management capacity. THANK YOU.
